For most teenagers, the years between roughly 12 and 16 are the ideal window for orthodontic treatment. The adult teeth have come through, the jaw is still growing, and teeth respond particularly well to gentle, guided movement at this stage - meaning treatment often works faster than it would later in life.
Modern brace and aligner treatment is a world away from what parents may remember from their own school days. Brackets are smaller, wires are gentler, and digital scans replace gloopy impressions - which means most teens settle into the routine much faster than they (or you) expect.
We schedule teen appointments around school hours wherever we can, with after-school and Saturday morning slots that keep classroom disruption to a minimum. Routine check-ins are usually only 15 to 20 minutes, and the gaps between visits are typically six to eight weeks - long enough to let life carry on.
Day-to-day, your teen can carry on with most things just as they would have done before. Sports, music lessons, eating with friends - it all keeps going. We'll talk them through any small adjustments to brushing or what to avoid eating, and we're always at the end of the phone if anything feels off between visits.

Between visits, we're available by phone or email if a bracket pops off, an elastic snaps, or your teen just wants reassurance. When the braces come off, we fit a retainer and run a short walkthrough of how to look after their new smile.
